Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) were created to fill a critical shortcoming
of most training programs.
The Problem
There is always a delay between training and using the skills or knowledge the training provides.
The longer the delay, the greater the loss of retention. This means, if several weeks elapse
between training and the opportunity to use what was learned, much of the training's benefit may be
lost. Traditionally, printed job aids are used to supplement the training but these lack many of
the most important attributes of the actual training.
The Solution
Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) is a web-based aid delivered on-demand. An EPSS may be
part of an Employee or Customer Facing Support Site. Employees or customers go to the site, select
the topic and receive immediate help. The links below show one page of two EPSS modules.
The hardware module shows technicians how to use a piece of test equipment. The module simulates
all of the necessary activities. The software module shows call center agents how to create a new
mailbox using Outlook 2003. Again, all of the tasks are completed in a simulation.
